“Bene hides in the green heart of Marjan Peninsula, reached by footpaths that wind through Mediterranean scrub fragrant with sage and rosemary. The beach itself is more coast than strand—rocky platforms and small pebble…”

You reach Bene by leaving Split's marble streets behind and climbing into the pine forest that cloaks Marjan, the city's green lung and recreational escape. The path descends through dappled shade that smells of resin and wild herbs, opening onto a shoreline where rock platforms step down to the Adriatic and small pebble beaches nestle between outcrops. This is where Split swims when it wants to avoid its own tourists—families claim favorite spots under pine shade, teenagers dive from the platforms, and older swimmers stroke methodically along the coast, their routine unchanged for decades.
The water here is deep and startlingly clear, the seabed visible several meters down where rocks wear soft coats of algae and fish hover in the blue. You enter from flat rock rather than gradual pebble, the cold hitting your chest all at once, and then you're in, buoyant and suddenly awake. Pines lean over sections of the shore, their canopy filtering the afternoon sun into shifting patterns of light and shadow. Swimmers float on their backs, staring up through branches at the sky, while others sit on the rocks with their feet in the water, reading or talking or simply watching the sea.

Bene Beach offers safe swimming conditions with calm, protected waters suitable for families. The rocky beach area has multiple entry points, though the surface requires care when entering the water. The Marjan forest location provides natural shade, making it safer for extended visits without sun overexposure. Popular with local families, the beach has an established safety record. Basic facilities are available during summer. The sheltered position generally ensures calm conditions. Supervised children should manage the rocky terrain easily, though water shoes are helpful for comfortable entry.
Bene Beach is enjoyable during standard swimming season from June through September, with July and August offering warmest water. However, its forested setting makes it particularly appealing during peak summer heat when natural shade provides relief. For fewer crowds, visit in June or September when weather remains pleasant. Being popular with locals, it sees year-round use for walking and recreation beyond swimming season. Weekday mornings in summer offer the most peaceful experience. The shaded environment makes midday visits more comfortable than exposed beaches.
Bene Beach is located on the western side of Split's Marjan peninsula, approximately 3-4 kilometers from the historic center. The most scenic route is walking or cycling along the coastal promenade that circles Marjan, taking 40-50 minutes on foot. City buses serve the area with stops near Bene. By car, follow signs toward Marjan and Bene, where limited parking is available but fills quickly in summer. The approach through Marjan forest park offers pleasant shade. Local water taxis also operate during summer season.
Bene Beach has a restaurant and café facilities directly at the beach complex, offering refreshments, snacks, and meals with waterfront seating. The area includes a small recreation complex with additional amenities. Accommodation in the immediate vicinity is limited, but Split's western residential neighborhoods nearby offer apartments and guesthouses within walking distance. The proximity to central Split means comprehensive dining and lodging options are easily accessible. Many visitors combine Bene with stays in central Split, enjoying the beach as a day trip destination.
Bene Beach stands out for its forested Marjan peninsula setting, offering natural shade that most Split beaches lack. This creates a different atmosphere—cooler, more secluded, and valued by locals for recreation beyond just swimming. The combination of pine forest backdrop, rocky shoreline, and calm swimming areas gives it a hidden feel despite being within city limits. It's particularly appreciated by Split residents for its local character and natural environment. The scenic forest walks and shaded areas make it appealing for full-day visits with diverse activities.
