Swimming is generally safe at Southwick Beach during supervised hours in summer when lifeguards are on duty. Lake Ontario waters can be unpredictable with occasional rip currents and undertows, so always swim near lifeguard stations and heed posted warnings. Water temperatures are coldest in spring and early summer. Check with park staff about current conditions before entering the water. Children should be closely supervised at all times. The beach closes to swimming when lifeguards are off duty, typically after Labor Day through late June.

The park is open year-round, but summer (June through August) offers the warmest weather and full amenities including lifeguards and concessions. July and August have the warmest water temperatures, though Lake Ontario remains cool even in peak summer. Spring and fall provide quieter visits with beautiful scenery but limited facilities and no swimming supervision. Winter attracts cross-country skiing and snowshoeing enthusiasts. For beach activities and swimming, late June through early September is ideal. Sunsets are spectacular throughout the year along this west-facing shoreline.

Southwick Beach State Park is located off Route 3 in Henderson, New York, approximately 30 miles southwest of Watertown. From Interstate 81, take exit 41 and follow Route 3 west for about 15 miles. The park has ample parking available near the beach area with a vehicle entrance fee charged during peak season (typically Memorial Day through Labor Day). Daily and seasonal passes are available. Parking fills quickly on hot summer weekends, so arriving early is recommended. No public transportation serves the park directly.

The park operates a concession stand during summer months offering snacks, ice cream, and light refreshments. For full meals, restaurants and grocery stores are available in nearby Henderson and Pulaski. The park features a campground with 112 campsites, some with electric hookups, plus cabins for rent. Restrooms, showers, and picnic areas with grills are available throughout the park. Additional lodging options including motels, cottages, and vacation rentals can be found in surrounding communities along Lake Ontario's eastern shore within a 15-minute drive.
